They say that laughter is the best medicine, but for Canadian guitarist and songwriter Darren Michael Boyd, music has been the ultimate cure. After a life-altering car accident, the Ottawa, Canada musician started his solo instrumental career as a form of therapy for the physical and psychological complications that followed.
Six releases later, Boyd’s Spooky Surf guitar sound has landed him as a nominee at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenessee, as a nominee for the prestigious Josie Music Awards. He was nominated for Musician of the Year (Guitar).
The Josie Music Awards is the world’s largest independent music award show. In 2023, less than 3% of the 59,000 submissions were chosen as nominees. “It’s a surreal experience, witnessing the enormity and professionalism of the event, and coming to the realization that I was one of the chosen few to be nominated. It’s a real honour,” said Boyd.
