Japanese Hard Rock/JMetal group, Doll$Boxx, return after a long absence with their sparkling new mini-album, High $pec with Sliptrick Records releasing the US edition on December 7th, 2017. The 5 tracks once again feature the vocal talents of Fuki (from Fuki Commune) backed by the excellent musicianship of the girls from Gacharic Spin – Hana (drums), F Chopper Koga (bass), Tomo-Zo (guitar) and Oreoreona (keyboards).

The cover art has been made by the famous Japanese illustrator Masayuki Kojo (Star Wars, Spider-Man, Devilman and more). The brand new band logo as seen on the cover was also designed by Mr. Koji. Doll$Boxx have also got themselves a new look courtesy of world renowned fashion designer n.NAOTO (Marilyn Manson, X Japan, Evanescence’s Amy Lee).

Doll$Boxx have a tradition of releasing official music videos for almost all of their released tracks and High $pec is no exception. All 5 songs will have full video productions accompanying them.

Here’s our “in-house” track by track run down for the tracks on High $pec …read on below!

High $pec – Track By Track Run Down

Shout Down
Don’t let the drum and bass-like intro deceive you: this song is a full-on, fast-paced metal track. Despite the heaviness of the backing track, Fuki’s crystal-clear melodic vocals fit the mix like a glove. The interlude is packed with 8 bit-like sounds, technical drum fills and cutting-edge guitar solos, all of which can only leave the listener thinking one thing: we’re in business.

Sub-liminal
Another fast number, with cool vocal harmonies and enticing synth sounds. Also, by song 2 it is pretty clear that Doll$Boxx are all about catchy, melodic choruses. To top it off, Tomo-Zo’s guitar work is also quite impressive, masterfully mixing tapping sequences and dive bombs whilst keeping an eye on melody. That’s the goal, right?

HERO
Seemingly paying tribute to Iron Maiden’s Wasted Years guitar intro, the song develops into yet another melodic, carefully crafted masterpiece. Some introspective moments here and there make the structure of the song pretty unpredictable, yet highly enjoyable.

Sekaiwa Kitto Aiwo Shitterunda
The band seem to have taken a leaf out of Dragonforce’s book with this track: blame it on the ferocious double pedal runs, or the high-pitched guitar licks. The chorus really gets you tapping your foot! Or relentlessly headbanging whilst worshipping the Gods of Japanese Metal, if no one else in the room is around.

Dragonet
The closing track and a personal favourite, too. The songwriting on this one is pretty straight-forward, yet its “simplicity” gives the song a lot more power. On a side note, hats off to F Chopper Koga’s short yet impressive bass solo, it is pretty rare to come by such technical bass playing in metal these days.
